Eventstellar is a rock band.
Known for their evocative melodies and introspective, deeply passionate and cosmic lyricism. Playing numinous music underpinned by a strong philosophy. Eventstellar’s sound spans the spectrum of emotions from aggressive and intense to blissful and serene.
The Eventstellar concept began on October 21, 2015, when Jesse Rómlárson finished his first demo song called “Beyond” and launched a video channel for future projects related to space. The date was chosen as a tribute to the “Back to the Future” film, tied to his enduring fascination with themes of time travel, space exploration, multiverses, the greatness of the cosmos and the mysteries of the universe. Driven by this fascination, Jesse envisioned these themes with music to craft a unique artistic identity.
With the goal of building a multimedia platform for cinematic musical experiences inspired by film soundtracks and capturing the grandeur and emotion of epic storytelling, this early concept laid the foundation for what would later evolve into Eventstellar.
In that year, Jesse was part of a cover rock band called Sojourner, formed with his friend and bassist John Scatter, along with drummer Siyo Btesh, during his time in Mexico as part of a foreign exchange program. The trio began performing small gigs, showcasing early tracks such as “A School Tale”, “The Endless Frontier”, “Sometimes” and “Underground”
These songs were later recorded in a modest second-hand bedroom studio, capturing a raw yet passionate energy. Although unpolished, they offered a glimpse into the sonic identity that Eventstellar would eventually refine, sparking interest within the local music scene.
Not fully satisfied with the name ‘Sojourner’, John proposed “Soyuz”, derived from the Russian word for “Union”. The band performed under this name until November 2015. However, concerns about potential political interpretations led the group to consider a new name. After some discussion, they all agreed on “Stillorgan”, inspired by a Dublin suburb that resonated with Jesse’s mind long ago.
Just as the group began gaining momentum, Siyo decided to leave the band and return to his homeland to pursue his own path. Shortly after, John also stepped back from the project at the end of 2015, leaving Jesse to carry the vision forward on his own. Undeterred, Jesse remained focused on creating and channeling his determination into shaping Eventstellar into the groundbreaking project he had always envisioned.
In February 2016, Jesse left Mexico and moved to Dublin to gain new perspectives and continue developing the project. While attending an English course at University College Dublin, he began searching for an affordable recording studio to work on the demos he had written with his former bandmates. By early May, Jesse started working on the initial layers of the song “Freedom”. During the recording process, he met Eoin Belfield, a session bassist and assistant audio engineer, who contributed to record the bass lines of the track.
Eoin introduced Jesse to Matt Dublin, a producer and mixing engineer who later handled the production of Eventstellar’s first single which included three tracks: “Freedom (Neo)” the enhanced version of Jesse’s first song ,“Freedom” the original song and a protest song titled “Against”. Together, Jesse, Eoin, and Matt completed what became Eventstellar’s debut single, “Serenity”. While working on Serenity, Eoin introduced Jesse to Nevan Lochlann, a drummer and his classmate at University College Dublin, who would later become Eventstellar’s drummer.
After recording Serenity, Nevan, Eoin and Jesse decided to perform a few gigs for fun at pubs in Cork and southern Dublin. During this time, Nevan’s friend, Japanese-Icelandic music producer Sōun Kanda, invited them to stay in Iceland to play two small gigs in Reykjavik and record several songs in his studio.
Already in the country, the band embraced the opportunity, performing a mix of covers and a couple of original songs in an effort to connect with new audiences.
While the band was recording more tracks in the studio, Jon Gilmour, a session guitarist and a friend of Sōun’s, came to assist with song arrangements. Initially brought in for session work, he quickly developed an interest in Eventstellar’s music. Impressed by their vision, Jon decided to contribute to additional tracks beyond his original role. As the collaboration deepened, his involvement became more significant, eventually leading him to take on the role of lead guitarist in the project.
With Jon’s addition, the lineup was complete, solidifying Eventstellar’s core sound. Eoin Belfield laid down a precise and steady bass foundation, anchoring the band’s rhythm. Jon Gilmour, influenced by the guitarist who shared his surname, brought expressive and atmospheric solos that added depth to Eventstellar’s music. Nevan Lochlann combined dynamic drumming with electronic elements, blending energy with a modern touch and finally Jesse Rómlárson, as vocalist and songwriter, shaped the band’s creative direction, bringing together diverse influences to define Eventstellar’s evolving sound.
With the group fully formed, the band began searching for a name that better reflected their musical vision. One night, after spending the evening at a pub with friends, the bandmates noticed the aurora borealis appearing in the sky.
Intrigued, they decided to travel to the Grótta Island Lighthouse for a better view.
Standing under the northern lights, Nevan remarked on the beauty of the event, with the stars shining brightly in the night sky.
This moment inspired the idea of combining “event” and “stars” or “starry” into a concept. Jesse suggested replacing “stars” with “stellar” a synonym that resonated with the celestial theme.
From that moment, the band collectively agreed on the name “Eventstellar”—a fusion of ‘event’, representing cosmic phenomena, and ‘stellar’, capturing their celestial inspiration.
With their name decided, the band focused on refining their musical identity. They began using the term ‘Transcendental rock’ to describe their evolving style—a blend of ambient textures, cinematic elements and influences from dream pop, shoegaze and dream rock. Featuring spacious reverbs and delays, combined with futuristic and electronic elements. Inspired by the vastness of the cosmos and the mysteries of the universe, creating an immersive and exploratory soundscape.
